BackupExec 2010 R2 services keep dissappearing

OS: Windows 2008 R2 - 64 bit

Backup Exec 2010 R2 installed

Problem: Services stopped and could not connect to view the console. Created seperate BE account with admin rights.

Had to uninstall BE 2010 , keep the program settings. Then reinstall BE 2010 and it works. A day later the same problem again.

Repair didnt work - cant find SQL utils. When doing a reinstall - SQL gets re-installed and then able to work again on the console.

Left this alone and 1-2 days later , same thing.

What is happening? Is this a licensing issue? Can MS updates for SQL affect the SQL portion of BE 2010?

The root cause was that because the server was included in the WSUS updates, it forcibly uninstalled and reinstalled all SQL related software.

Removed the server from the WSUS server and restarted and all fine now.

Hi,

Do an in-place upgrade to BE 2010 R3 and update with the available patches. R3 apparently fixes a number of issues with previous versions. You can use the same license keys, and get the download from the link below:

Thanks!
