BackupExec 2010R2 Vault Store Unable to Delete

hulahoop_

We recently installed the archiving option on to one our Backup Exec servers. The intention being to automatically start to archive some of our data stores and free up resources.

The problem we have is that after we installed the option and then created a vault store we found that any time we went to use Backup Exec and had to select a file or directory, be it using the selection for backup or restore, or redirecting a restored file Backup Exec grinds to a halt for a few min. I know it's not crashed because I can open another session of Backup Exec and everything works correctly.

Knowing that this has only happened when we installed the archiving option we removed it and the problem went away. Backup Exec works fine and doesn't get stuck.

Ive recently plucked up the courage to reinstall the option to give it another go, unfortunately the same problem has come back and also the original vault store we had created still shows up in Backup Exec. I try to delete it, but I'm told I cannot delete it until any archiving jobs related to it are deleted, but I don't have any. How to I remove the old vault store, and does anyone have any thoughts as to why Backup Exec seems to slow down when searching folders with the archiving option installed?

I have reinstalled Backup Exec from scratch and then restored all the DB's etc to see if this helps but no success. Maybe if I reinstalled Backup Exec and restored it and didn't include the archiving DB's (not sure how to do this).

Any help would be great!

rather than reinstalling Backup Exec I recommend upgrading to 2010R3 sp3  Thiis version has significant number of improvements and hotfixes.

You can perform direct upgrade to BE201OR3 from your existing version BE2010 R2 and it will use same license keys.  Install can be found here  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH66724

before installing Stop all of the Backup Exec services, including the SQL(BKUPEXEC) service.  Copy the catalogs and data folders from the <volume>:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec directory to another location for safekeeping. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH159557

Once done please upgrade to Sp3 this can be done via live update  and then push install remote agent on your remote servers once you have made sure BE2010R3 is fully patchedup .

I agree, problem is we're struggling to put our hands on the serial number at the moment. I have the license key for BE, but that doesn't seem to work in the portal - This is a new site I've recently taken over and filing was not high on the previous team's list of priorities.

While we continue to look for the serial do you have any suggestions for the current version?

Update, I've manged to find the serial and have updated to R3, all updates also added.

Unfortunately Im still having the same problem. I've removed the archiving option as a tempoary measure. I think if I can reinstall the archive option without it remembering what was there before we may be able to make some progress.

Any thoughts?

Are you getting any errors in Windows Events?

What version of Enterprise Vault are you using?  Verify it is in the Backup Exec Software Compatibility list http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137682

For things to check on re installing the Enterprise Vault Option this document might be helpful  http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO23449

I've tried reinstalling and using the link information above for guidance. Now when I go to install the option I get an error saying it failed to install the archive option. The error sends you to another Symantec web page (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH156345), again which I followed but I still get the same error when trying to install the option.

I have copied a section of the install log below. For reference.

make sure you have enough disk space. Here is another Technote for the Archive Option install failing with the error 'ERROR: EVRunDll.exe process has returned error code 49'   http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH125360

also If you have any antivirus running on the server try turning it off and then and see if it the instal runs.

Already tired the above, stopped SEP running, I have loads of RAM and HDD space available.

Still coming up with the same error in the logs.

Bit of an update...

I've completely reinstalled BE and restorsed everything with the exception of the vault store. Archiving option is installed, and BE is patched.

I havent added any archiving jobs yet or created a store, but still when I go the either change / create a backup selection or a restore selection BE still hangs for 5min. Everything else works fine, and Im able to open another BE session and this operates fine.

Any ideas?
