Hi All,

Currently i'm using BE 2010 and 2012,

I'm planning to scratch one of my server and purchase the capacity based licensing for BE2014

My question are :

1. Can I detect and recover what have backup by previous BE?

2. I'm planning to have 2 server (1 DC and 1 DR) and do backup replication between BackupExec Server (using the new optimized deduplication features)

   a. is there any features or limitation that not included on capacity based licensing?

   b. Do I have to purchase 2 sets of capacity based license, or i can use 1 license for both site?

   c. how to monitor how much capacity that i have been used? what happened when suddenly i exceed the capacity limit?

   d. For the optimized deduplication can I limit the bandwith usage?

Need advice from experts :)

1) Yes, BE 2014 can restore data which was backed up by a previous version unless the agent/feature is EOL.

2a) Capacity Edition includes all the agents and options.

2b) If your DR site would be "cold" (meaning no active backups are scheduled), you can deploy the software without any licenses albeit for a specific time period. I would recommend you to have a look @ these two policies which will clarify further in detail:-

Cold Site/Disaster Recovery Rights Policy - http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/enterprise/other_resources/b-coldsite_disaster_recovery_policy.en-us.pdf

Disaster Recovery Categorization Supplement - http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/enterprise/other_resources/b-coldsite_disaster_recovery_product_list.en-us.pdf

2c) You can check how much uncompressed data has been backed up by checking storage statistics or running storage/media reports.

Best to check with the licensing team as to what happens when the capacity has been exceeded and if you require any licenses for the DR site.

2d) This KB should help - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH165599
