Hallo,

...so your media server is a VM? If so, there are very strict requirements to run BE as a VM, the 1 being that you need an Adaptec card...no other SCSI cards are supported for connecting to tapes...

Do you mean slots?

Is the library detected as Unknown Medium Changer under windows device manager?

I mean slots. Under windows device manager its detected as a known tape drive.

Robot has to be detected by windows as Unknown Medium Changer.

If it is not there in the Device manager, BE will not detect it as a library.

Delete the Tape drive from BE.

Power off the library, shutdown the media server, power on the library and once it comesup fully poweron the media server.

Then check for the medium changer in the device manager.

If it detects properly, run device configuration wizard within BE and configure tape library.

...is this a library/autoloader or not? If not, then the robotics obviously won't be involved.

Is the drive connected to a proper SCSI card or a RAID controller? If a RAID controller, it might be that it is an unsupported configuration.

You might also want to check that the SCSI cable is connected to the correct port, and that the terminator is on. Single tape drives are self-terminating, so they're not needed.

Also, if Windows Server 2003, disable RSM and restart the BE services.

...then you might want to check up on the TN below...

Do take note that operating a tape drive from a virtualised VM is an alternate configuration.  This means that it has not been fully tested by Symantec.  The documents quoted earlier are based on information provided by VMware to Symantec.

Bus number 0 target Id 0 LUN 0
