BackupExec + VMware VCB?

Tpm73
Not applicable
hi,

if i use BackupExec 2010 on a physical windows server (attached via SAN the VMware LUNS to this server)
must i also install & configure the VMware VCB proxy on this server?

must i also configure/add some VCB scripts to backup exec or is it enough if the VCB proxy and the backup exec integration tools are installed....

or is it enough to use the backup exec vmware agent?

is it the same for backup exec vers. 12.5?

thanks!

Hi Mate,

Previously i was using the VCB - NBD mode with the BE 12.5 and it was so slow, now with the BE 2010, perhaps you can select using AVVI and don't forget to utilize the vStorage API from VMware to backup using "change block tracking" for VM with hardware v7.

You won't need VCB (ESX 3.5 Update 2 or ESX 4) - but if you want to use differential or incremental backups you will need to makes sure your virtual machiens have change block tracking and Hardware v7 enabled

so how did you go with the backup method ?

It seems that there is new VCB 1.5u2 just released along with BE 2010 R2, does the VCB script can be integrated with BE 2010 ?
