BackupExec with 2 server connect by VPN

Hi,

I have 2 servers on 2 different places connect by VPN.Each server have a Dell RD1000.

On one server, I only have Data. On the second one, I have an Exchange, an AD, and Data.

First Site : RD1000 A => Data Site A

Second Site : RD1000 B => Data Site B, Exchange, AD (All on the same physical server)

My questions are :

Can I use one Backup Exec on only one site, to manage the backup to the RD1000 for the 2 site ?

If Yes, the Data from Server B to RD1000 B will not go through the VPN if Backup Exec is on Server A, isn't it ?

Another questions :

On the Symantec Backup Exec Small Business, I see " up to 3 servers/applications whether physical or virtual."

Does it mean, If I have Server A(Data) and Server B (Data,Exchange,AD) I'm able to use only One license ?

Thanks

Sorry for my English, it is not my native language.

Hi,

You're looking at the CASO option (Central Admin Server Option) if you want 1 server to control these. Read the TNs below:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO11931

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO12279

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH43297

However, if you just want to log onto these servers, then consider the Backup Exec Remote Console, which is a free installation (CASO is licensed), and you can run this from your workstation. Read my article below on this:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-leverage-backup-execs-remote-console

Thanks!

Thanks for your answer.

I'll take a look to Backup Exec Remote Console, cause CASO seems too excessive for only 2 servers.

I suspect that 1 license will protect that number of servers. Symantec licensing can confirm this for you.
