BackupExec2014 - B2D - Why no Backup-Folders? I'm Done.

Hello Symantec-Team,

we are using BackupExec since 2001 and we was very happy with this great Backup-Solution.
Over the past 10 years we was in subscription and we updated BackupExec only if we renewed our backup-systems.
Everything works fine till 2013 where we updated BackupExec to Version 2012. What a pain.Omg.

Now we migrated our Backup-Server to BE-Version 2014 and indeed: you have brought back many necessary functions.
But why NOT Backup2Disk-Jobs to Folders?
What was the sense of this design-decision?

Well - we will partitionating our BackupDrive to use this feature. But we are not happy with this solution because we loose Disc-Space.

Please, Symantec, let the function return within the next service-pack.

But to be honest: I am already done with BackupExec.

Sorry,

TM

One of the reasons why it is only one B2D per volume relates to the number of issues that were caused on older versions of Backup Exec by backup admins misunderstanding that 2 or more B2Ds on the same volume affect one another.

As we have always strongly recommended not flat file copying B2D content outside of a duplicate job, there is also no benefit in setting up your backups so that different servers use diffferent B2D folders.

As such why not setup all you jobs to use the same B2D?

Due to the dependence in the further backup-process.

We need to seperate our daily backups because these files are archived differently.

Other Backup-Solutions can handle this and also BE2010 w/o any problems.

Thanks for listening.

If you are archiving your backup sets by copying or backing them up as ordinary files then you are doing it the wrong way. See this document http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH176061
