Hello,
We have Backupexec 2010 R2 installed on Windows server 2008 (64bit) server. This is the only app running on the server. After rebooting the server, the Backup Exec server service will not start. beremote and the media service starts with no problem. The Backupexec Server service aborts with error 1067. Here's what been tried so far to fix it:
1. renamed catalog folder to catalog.old - Services still would not start.
2. Used beutility to recover the database - services still would not start.
3. Ran a repair on backup exec 2010, tried installing BE2010 SP1, also tried reinstalling Backupexec 2010.
Below are the results of "beserver.exe -console". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

...as long as you are confident you have a copy of your Data and Catalogs folders, you can go with a full uninstall.
Then install BE as per normal with your license keys etc and leave it unconfigured with jobs. From there, make sure all the BE services are started and post back if they are/aren't. Also patch BE if you can...

What is the error code in the event viewer?
Thanks...

Hi Loretta,
Can you perhaps give a bit more background information? Has this always worked, and if so, were any changes made in your environment before it broke?
Here are also a couple of things to try:
1. Check that you're using a domain account with admin priviledges at a minimum. If you're not, use BEutility to change the service account to a relevant domain account (you'll have to create it if you haven't already).
2. If you're using a domain account, make sure it is not locked out.
3. If it has never worked, completely uninstall the application, and then reinstall from scratch.
Thanks!

In answer to the questions in the replies, BackupExec was working fine previously. I was doing a test run on a backup job when it decided to freeze and stop responding and was forced to reboot the server. That's when the beserver service stopped loading. The backupexec account is a domain admin, account is not locked.
The error in the event viewer is 1000 (Application Error).

Refer the following TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH87388
It is actually pointed at BE 11, not sure whether it can help you are not.
You can give a try..

Thanks but I already tried that and it didn't work. Also tried applying SP1.

OK...not sure if you have tried the following:
1. Open up BEutility, and run a comprehensive repair of the BEDB according to the steps in the TN below (I'd have said to go with the normal repair, but in this case it is probably better to run a total repair)...
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67239
2. Use BEutility.exe to redo the service account username/password.
3. Open up services.msc and make sure that the SQL server instance for BE is running under the Local System account.
4. Backup your Data/Catalogs folders, and then uninstall/reinstall BE...
Thanks!

Hi,
I've tried your suggestions but the error still continues. BEutility.exe ended with errors when Aging the BEDB database. Everything else said it was successful.
Note: When I uninstalled Bkexec, it asks if it should remove all catalogs/data. Should I have said yes to that? I have made a backup of my Data/Catalogs folder. perhaps that will make a difference?
Thanks.

Ok I think this has helped determine what the cause is. After a clean install of BackupExec, all services start with no problem. As soon as I copy the old data back, then the services won't load. So I left the catalogs but removed the sql database. As soon as I do that, the services stop loading. I then used the Beutility to "drop existing database and reload from base". Backupexec now runs but of course all my jobs are gone. Is there any way to get the data/info back (perhaps from a previous version)?
Thanks.

Thank you so much for your help with this. I found the KB that explains how to restore the DB from tape. I also had an older copy of the .bak file stored on another drive. BackupExec is now up and running again.
