Backups Failing

We have a client that is using Backup Exec for Windows Servers 9.0 running SBS 2003. What is happening is that the backups go great for 5-7 days then start failing and then when they try to run again they are just queuing and won't come out of queue. nothing in the veritas or windows logs to give me any information as to why they are failing and then going into queue. The only way I have been able to resolve this re-setup the job completely which is just ridiculous. We want to sell this to corporate clients but now we are starting to think that maybe we should find better software. If anyone can give me any idea as to why we are getting this behavior it would be greatly appreciated.

When the job fails, what is the error given?
Any Event Log entries?

Once the jobs go to queued, if you go to the Devices Tab, is the tape drive online and ready?

Have you tried upgrading to v9.1. It's a free upgrade

v9.1.4691.1 here
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264658.htm

SP4a here
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/280008.htm

latest driver pack here
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273853.htm

You also need to be aware that v9.1 has not been available from Veritas/Symantec for about 18 months at least (and v9.0 for at least 28 monthsMessage was edited by:

It just says Failed in the Job Log no additional Info, Nothing in the Event Log for it.
When it goes to queue the drive is still online I can do an Inventory and it finishes successfully

Can you post a failed job log?

When the jobs are queued, are there any active alerts?

David,

Always make sure the tape is always appendable/overwritable whenever you are firing the job. For test purposed try running a quick erase on a tape and then running a backup job on it!
