Best Practices when backing up Exchange 2010 on VMware

So I have both the VMware and Exchange Agents installed.  For the longest time we had the Exchange backup split into two parts; one backup for files and system state, a second back up for the info store.  Now that we have the VMware agent I was wondering if 2 backups were still necessary?  Can I just create one job that backs up Exchange through VMware with GRT turned on and call it a day or do I still need to de-couple these back ups?

The easiest way is to backup the entire VM with GRT enabled.

Nope just do a complete virtual machine backup with Exchange and file system GRT enabled.

If you have to DR the whole virtual machine it is a single pass restore, if you need either e-mails or individual files back then the GRT process takes care of that.

There is another best ractice to be aware of - because of the way all GRT restores work it is good practice to backup to disk and duplicate to tape if you need offsite. Note: this is not a specific VMware best practice it would apply to GRT of Exchange with the traditional agent as well.
