Best way to Backup Clients/Workstations with BE2012?

Danny_Wackes

Hi @all

in the past (and currently) we used BE2010 for our SBS2003 and BESR for Images based Backups of our Clients.

Now, what is the best Strategie to Backup our Clients while using a SBS2011 with BE2012?
Can the new "Desaster Recovery Function" do the same as SSR (BESR)?

Thanks for Hints on this.

best Regards
Danny

Hi , So i CAN made Backups of Clients with BE2012 and SDR and they will be very similar to an SSR Image based Backup. Ans ---SDR is free option with BE2012 ,so yes you can backup any client using SDR option but then it is not completely similar to SSR ,as SSR is different product and part of BESR which support recovery of dissimilar h/w is supportedwhich backupexec not used to support before. - In Detail, we have Licensed the SBS Edition. With this License, is it allowed to use BE2012/SDR on all Clients? Yes, if you have license for client then you can use SDR as it is free option. - We have also Licensed SSR2011 Desktop Edition. - On our old SBS2003 we have one SSR installed and use this to Manage all Client Backups. With BE2012 this not useable because in the SBS License is no more a SSR included. Is that right? SSR as said before is different product ,so you should have seperate license to use it.and for any query related to SSR you can use SSR forum but then SBS license won't include SSR. Please open a new thread for any query related to SSR on below link. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/backup-and-recovery/forums/symantec-system-recovery-formerly-backup-exec-system-recovery Thanks

Probably the most key difference between the SSR SRD Process and the BE SDR Process relates to if the machine that is being backed up contains a database technology such as SQL or Exchange.

Because SSR takes an image level backup, the SRD process will recover the operating system and the the database in a single pass.

However because BE takes a file level backup with a separate database level phase, when it comes to SDR only the Operating System is recovered. A separate restore job is needed to recover the database content as some of the services for the database have to be active to allow the restore.
