Can Backup-Exec 2012 generate separate subfolders for each backup job?

Hello,

I am using the Trial of Backup Exec 2012 and i'm finding that its organizational properties are not what I am looking for. I am looking to confirm if Backup Exec 2012 can be configured to create a sub-directory or "folder" with the name of the date it was created as the folder name. Once the folder is created can the backup files for a job be generated in this created sub-directory or "folder". So each Backup generated is placed in its own folder with the date it was generated as the folder name.

Currently Backup Exec 2012 creates all backup files for all jobs in one directory called BEData.

Thanks for anyone willing to share.

Hi,

No, this doesn't exist. All jobs will sit in a central folder. I WOULD suggest chucking out the BE 2012 trial, and rather trial BE 2014...it fixed a ton of issues and added in even more functionality that BE 2012 had removed from it compared to BE 2010.

Download BE 2014 on the link below:

Thanks!

That is not possible in Backup Exec 2012 and above unless you create Legacy Backup to disk folder (They have to be from a upgrade of a prevoius version).

All the media is stored in the BEdata folder as you found and and Backup Exec will manage that.

Why do you want to have your backups going to different folders? There is no need for this because BE is quite capable of managing the backup sets. There is no need for you to manage the backup sets.

I think you should go through this article once. Few points in this article may help you in clearing your doubts about not providing the option of creating multiple B2Ds in one location (applicable to both BE releases 2012 and 2014). Backup-to-Disk Best Practices http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH164267 A point from the above article "Avoid hosting multiple backup-to-disk folders on the same volume" This option was available in BE versions prior to 2012, but Symantec would have certainly thought a million times before removing the option of multiple B2Ds and also continued the single disk storage option in BE 2014 (latest version). Thanks!!
