Hello
I have a new installation of Backup Exec 2012 V-Ray Edition running on Server 2008 R2. I also have a 2-node Hyper-V 2012 failover cluster running over iSCSI on a HP P2000 SAN.
The problem I have, is that only the virtual machines on the node that currently owns the CSV storage in the cluster can be backed up. The backup for the other virtual machines on the 'non-owner' node always fails with the following error:
V-79-10000-11230 - VSS Snapshot error. Unable to get minimum quiet time for physical volumes. Reduce the activity on these volumes, or wait and run the backup when there is less activity on the volumes.
Regardless of how active the cluster is, this error always happens. There are currently only 2 virtual machines in this cluster (one on each node) and they're just Windows web servers that aren't really doing anything. If I move the storage ownership to the other node, then I can then back up the virtual machines on that node instead. If I move all the virtual machines to the owner node, I can back them all up.
Backup Exec is fully updated, the agents on the Hyper-V host and virtual machines are all up-to-date too. I've already raised this issue with Symantec support, but after a few weeks they've decided it's a Microsoft issue due to the VSS errors on the hosts.
However, I ran Hyperoo on the 'non-owner' host today and it backed up all the VHDs in the CSV using VSS without any problems at all.
I also have another 2-node cluster on Hyper-V 2012 and that also has exactly the same issue. I'm at a loss what to do now, as our expensive new installation of Backup Exec is currenly useless!
Has anyone else had this problem?
