Can't create backup for ralus agent

TR-BE2014
Level 5

We migrated off of Novell OES 2 a couple of months ago, and I need to restore a file from tape. I was able to catalog the tape, but I can't log in to the ralus agent from our BE 2010 R3 media server. I removed and reinstalled the ralus agent. No problem configuring during setup or starting the agent and the ralus agent account is in the beoper group, but when I try to use that logon account, it fails with the "directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed".

The only thing I can think of that changed is that sometime after getting off of novell, I moved the media server into our AD domain. Is there something I need to do for the logon account since the novell server is not in the domain?

I don't understand what you are trying to do here.  You cannot logon to the RALUS.  It is just a process on the Linux server.

Can you re-direct the file that you are trying to restore onto a directory on the media server?

Is your new Linux/Unix server supported.  Check the SCL below

Thanks. The ralus is on the novell server we shut down just 6 weeks ago, and the file I'm trying to recover is in NSS format. The media server is windows. NSS files can't be restored directly to a windows ntfs file system, so I have to fire up the old novell server, restore the file to it and use the novell client on windows to move it to the windows server because the novell client will translate the nss file to ntfs.

My problem is that the media server has to recognize the novell server, but I'm getting logon account errors for the novell server now, even though I used to back up and restore to this server regularly.

Make sure RALUS is loaded first (obviously).

Establish a trust with this server.

You should then create a logon account in Backup Exec for root. That should allow you to authenticate (i.e. browse) to the OES server.

Ralus is loading fine. According to the docs and the install readme, the way to establish trust is to add my agent to the user defined selections, but when I do that and try to browse, that's where I get the logon errors. Root and another account are in the beoper group on the agent, and I've added those accounts to BE, but I'm not able to use either account to log in.

I also noticed port 10000 isn't listening on the agent, but if that was the problem, I wouldn't be able to load ralus, right?

Can you load RALUS into debug mode: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35477

Then try to connect from your media server.

Post back here with the debug log and screenshots that show the error you are seeing.

OK, here's the log. I've changed part of the media server IP address for the post.

I'm running 2010 R3 SP2 with all updates on media server, and agent with latest updates on linux box.

Maybe our license has expired. Would that cause these kinds of errors, or would I get a clear message about the license?

Well, I stand corrected. In a fit of desperation, I went ahead and restored the novell files directly to the windows server and it worked. The last time I tried that, the restored files were garbage, but it would have been older versions of both windows and oes (or possibly netware).

Thanks to all for the responses.
