Cannot Load Backup Exec 2012 on Server 2012

I have a Dell server with Server 2012 R2 installed. I am trying to install Backup Exec 2012 but get an error that it is not compatible. Tech support said it was. I am running one Hyper V machone with two virtual servers. However, it will not even try to run the install for the software. Any guidance appreciated.

Backup Exec 2012 is not supported as a media server on Windows 2012R2.  The earliest version that supports Windows 2012R2 is Backup Exec 2014.

Backup Exec 2012SP2 offers limited support for protecting remote Windows 2012 servers but not Windows 2012R2.
