Correct way of backing up Hyper-V host and it's VMs

I'm struggling to find the best practice for the backup of the Hyper-V host and the guest VMs. Originally we had everything in one backup job covering

  • the Host's C Drive
  • D and F drives that contained the vhdx  files and folders, iso files, etc
  • System State

then the guest VMs under the Microsoft Hyper-V option. GRT was enabled as one of the VMs is a file server.

Following issues with a Windows file server VM, I then get told by a Veritas Support person that the Hyper-VMs option should be separated out into another job containing only the VMs and Host Component.

Now when I've searched on here there's an employee responding to a similar query stating that everything can be covered in one backup job.

The best practices guide seems to focus on the Hyper-V VMs and not include how the host's backup should be configured with them.

Help!

TIA

I normally create two jobs. One for the host and one for the VMs.
