Dear All,
I used to have one full backup job that runs everyday and write tape to HP Tape drive.
HP tape drive is now replaced with HP 1/8 G2 autoloader (8 slots).
I got confused of how i can customize the daily backup job to run on different slot everyday(when job runs on Monday i need to write on slot 1, Tuesdya on slot 2 and so on)
is it means that i should have separate backup jobs (identical jobs) so i can configure each one to run on certain slot according to the day???
Kindly dvice

Hi,
if you've only got 1 job then it's not going to be possible to single out a slot per day. It's going to use whatever tape is available in whatever slot.
The only way to accomplish what you want to do is to create separate jobs for your backups, and then partition your autoloader. Then target each job to a slot in order to use a specific tape.
Read below on how to do this:

Thanks!

Now that you have a tape library, you should leave behind the idea that a particular day's backup must end up on a particular tape. This is not an efficient way to use a tape library. See my article below

If your daily jobs have the same OPP, then all you need to do is to create a media set with the this OPP, target your jobs to this media set and let the jobs choose the tape.
You can force your jobs to use a particular tape by using partitions, but when the tape is full, your job will fail if it cannot find an overwritable tape in the targeted partition. This will happen even if there are overwritable tapes in other partitions.
Also, if you use partitions, then you need 1 job a day, instead of one job for the entire week.
