Creating a new Tape backup, advice?

Hello and thanks for reading,
I have been using BE 9.1 using disk to disk and now i want to make a job using our tape drive to "back up the backup" as it were.

I've got a Dell Powervault 122T and 40 gig tapes. Right now im only needing to back up about 87 gigs but that can climb. My robotic library is set but what im curious about is actually creating the job. I read something about drive pools and cascading pools but im not sure about them.

I was thinking of running a weekly dif back up and a once a month full back up.

Any tips or steps would be great, thanks!

If by "Backup the Backup" you mean create a copy of the Disk backups on tape, you need to create DUPLICATE jobs rather than COPY jobs. This will create new catalog entries so that you can restore directly from tape, rather than having to restore to disk, then restore the data

You can use POLICIES to do the Duplicate to tape. Directions are in the Admin
Guide

As long as you do not partition the library, and point the DUPLICATE jobs to the All Tapes pool, it should grab the oldest scratch tape in the library and continue on the next oldest as needed
