Credential problems - Production Backups not working any more

Hi all, we have been granted the role of keeping an existing BACKUP EXEC 2012 installation despite of being unexperienced due to administrator replacement. i.e. we have no experience on this.

The problem is the following: After the last patch installation on BACKUP EXEC 2012 (because someone suggested us to do so to install the remote agent on a linux server to backup) we restarted the BACKUP EXEC server and EVERY backup that had been working so far prior to this patch upgrade stopped working. The message that appears is:

Job Failed. The job failed with the following error: Authentication failed on connection to the server. Make sure that the user account has the appropriate permissions and that the password was typed correctly. V-79-57344-65065

We have set a new password on Configuration and settings - logon accounts - manage logon accounts

and when we try to select the samba folders to make a backup this is what we get:

Error Veritas.png

So we don't know how to carry on. Since this is the software we make production backups with we desperately need to fix this problem and make it work. Any help would be most welcome. Thanks in advance !!!

Finally the problem has been solved. Every backup definition was correctly created. This is obvious since it had been working all along up to a couple days ago.

When we restarted the server after several patches were installed, the server started throwing the error messages above showing credential problems.

We have seen that dropping and re-creating every backup definition, backups started working fine again just as before.

This is quite an odd issue since it's like if you have a vase you want to put on a shelf but you can't because the key doesn't open the shelve's glass doors. You need to break your vase and go buy another one. Then the key does open the shelve's doors and you can place your vase on it. Typical X-file :)

Thanks for your help, partners. Best regards

Pepe

Hello Pepe,

Just wanted a clarification on your statement: EVERY backup that had been working so far prior to this patch upgrade stopped working.

Does it mean that all your backups(the backups of other Remote Servers) are failing as well?

If yes, then please go back to Configuration and Settings > Logon Accounts > Manage Logon accounts and check what the Default account is. It has to be an account which is supposed to have Domain Rights. For the Linux box, you need to ensure that an account which has rights equivalent to ROOT account is used.

Refer to http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH130255 for more details.

I would try logging on to the server with the System Logon Account and also change the jobs to use the SLA (System Logon Account) and try testing the credentials. Also be sure that the System Logon Account is set as the default account and is not restricted. If you still experience problems or are unable to use the SLA credentials, I would advise opening a case with the support team. Hope this helps.
