D$ Backup was 4000mb/min, now 57mb/min

Howdy -

I have BackupExec 12 running on windows server 2003 R2.  As of about two weeks ago, the job rate on the D$ backup on the BackupExec server itself dropped from about 4000mb/min to 57mb/min across all media I've tried since it started to occur.  No errors in the event log, no errors in the job log.  My E$ backup on a 2008 server still runs at about 1650mb/min, which is historically normal for that share.

Any ideas?

Check that you don't have a AV scan on that volume during the time of the backup.  Also, check the fragmentation level of the volume.  If it is badly fragmented, defrag it.

Thanks for the feedback.  Funny enough but just today the script threw an error for a dirty head.  My cleaning cart was approaching it's end of life so I just cleaned the sh*t out of it with a new cart.  Fragmentation isn't really an issue, but I did exclude the backup cycle time slot from my overnight AV scanning schedule for the meantime - we'll see what happens.
