DAT DDS-3 tape capacity with Backup Exec 10.0

The nominal capactity when using compression on the DAT DDS-3 tapes should be 24 GB. Compression is turned on (both hardware and software) but cannot store more than 15GB before Backup Exec asks for another tape to complete the backup. Compression is enabled on the device, and for the job "Hardware (if available, otherwise software)" is selected.

Hi,

Hardware compression is done by the device. Backup Exec only gives signals to the device so that compression can be done.

Please refer to the following technote:

- Backups fail to get double the amount of the native capacity recorded to a media, even when hardware compression is being utilized.

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/199542.htm

Also try performing a long erase on the media and verify the results.

We hope this will help.
