DFS issue on Backup Exec

Good Day,

I just want to know/ask if the issue of slow running backup on a DFS server was already resolved on Backup Exec 2012. As I back read some threads, there are issues of slow running backup on version 12.5 and 2010. Or if you can give me some guide or article as a supporting document. Thanks

Hello,

Just want to share with the community.

We managed to have a test environment, and below is the result of our testing. I hope the result will somehow give anyone an idea on the current status of BE2012 on backing up DFS server compare on the issue on its previous version, version 11. The result was base on a simple test environment we've conducted. Thanks

Media Server: Windows Media 2008 R2 with Backup Exec 2012

Testing Environment:

  • DFS Server with 15GB of Data stored on local drive
  • Backup Server with 200 Gb Local Storage
  • VM Connection of 1Gbps

Backup Job Results:

  • 900MB/Min Job Transfer Rate
  • Job Completed within 20 mins

Best Regards,

Hello,

Most of the issues related to performance were associated to the diverse environment. The best thing that you could do is test out the preformance of DFS backups/restores using Backup Exec 2012. Backup Exec 2012 definitely adds better performance as far as backups and restores are concerned.

You may refer to the following links to get more information on it:

Well I just need in some what an assurance/documentation before building a test environment due to limited resorces. If in case BE2012 backup rate performance on DFS server is not yet improve, theres no need for me to build a test environment.
