DLO 7.5 on BE 2012 SP3 Media Server

Hi,

I cannot find information, if DLO 7.5 can be installed on same server as BE 2012 Media server is.

When we talked to BE reseller, it was presented that DLO is just option inside BE which enables backup of files from user computers, something like BE agent. Now, when I try to install it, I found out that it is a separate product from BE. We cannot afford another HW server just for DLO, so I want to install it on BE Media server. BE already has its own SQL Express instance, and DLO also needs one. Can SQl be shared between the two?

Can DLO use same storage disks as BE is using?

Thanks.

DLO as a BE option was discontinued when we released  the stand alone version (DLO 7.0)

Prior to this there were 2 separate versions BE DLO (which was an option that had to be on a BE media server but in reality operated as a separate product) and NBU DLO (which was a completely stand alone product). As such your reseller may need to refresh his understanding.

Whilst DLO and BE can share a volume for disk storage we would recommend they use seperate volumes as it is then easier to housekeep etc if the storage starts to fill up.

Normally we would recomend not sharing the Backup Exec SQL instance with another application. However we are really thinking about applications that might have direct end user access which would be affected by downtime and not IT only applications - although it should be noted that recovery of the SQL instance is still more complicated if you need to recover BE and DLO due to complete loss of server.

Other than that they should be able to cohabit (with maybe some performance issues if the hardware is not good enough)

Hi,

they backup different resources and won't compete with each other. There should be no reason not to install DLO and BE on the same server. Just make sure the server resources are high enough to handle the load of 2 backup applications

Thanks!

Hello,

thanks both for answer.

Performance could really be a problem, so some testing will be necessary
