Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Hello,

We have a small problem with our backups.

The problem we have is: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
while verifieing.

The exact error:

Storage device "HP" reported an error on a request to read data from media.

Error reported:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

But it's not always the same tape every week it's on a different tape.
We already have a new backup unit, new backup tapes, downloaded the newest veritas tapedrivers and installed them. It doesn't matter.

What can we do to get lost of those CRC errors???

Install the Latest drivers:
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only):
http://support.veritas.com/docs/273853

Also check for Hard READ/WRITE errors. Go to devices tab---right click on the tape device--go to properties---click on statistics tab----check for any HARD read/write errors.Hard read/write error could indicate problem with SCSI cable, SCSI CARD or drive itself.

Try these steps:

1) Disbale and delete the device from backupexec.
2) Turn the device off.
3) Turn the server off.
4) Turn the device on.
5) Turn the server on.
6) Once the backup exec sees the drive erase the media
7) Long erase the media before running the backup.

Run the backup job.
