DeDuplication and Encryption

I have read that Backup Exec 2010 does  not allow deduplication of encrypted jobs.  Can you, however, Encrypt a job that has already been deduplicated?

We would like to make D2D backups and then copy the job across the WAN to our DR site.  I think the less traffic going across the wire the better.

You should not use software encryption  in your job.  Encrypted data dedup badly.  Instead you should enable encryption in the dedup folder itself.

You should also not use software compression in your dedup job.  Compresssed data also dedup badly.  To enable compression in your dedup folder, see this document

As mentioned, edit the PDCONF and enable encryption between media servers.  Or if you need it down at the client level, you can edit each PDCONF on each client individually.

Also if by Copy Across the WAN you mean using a CASO setup an Optimized Duplication jobs then fine no issues - however you cannot just copy/replicate the content of a deduplication storage folder using file system tools as all the database references to what chunks of data are located where etc will go missing or point to invalid paths.

BTW you could not do this without a lot of care with standard Backup-to-disk either.
