Deaktivierung der automatischen Katalogisierung

Hallo zusammen,

Vielen Dank vorab!

The catalog pocess is critical to the operation of BE. It is critial as without it you would not be able to generate restore selections and Backup Exec would not know where inside the backup set specific objects (files, e-mails etc) are located. Hence you cannot disable it.

Some of the newer versions of Backup Exec introduced an ability to schedule or delay the catalog (but it still had to run at some point)

As long as you are using GRT backup processsing, to disk based storage (so not tape), then the very latest version (BE 15 FP4) uses a new catalog process which means that opening the selection list for restore may take slightly longer, but the catalog processing for the backup itself is minimal.

So whilst you can't completely disable it if you go to BE 15 FP4  you can reduce the impact of how long it takes during backup processing (as long as GRT backups are involved)

NOTE: Do not go to BE 15 FP4 without checking the Compatibility Lists (HCL and SCL) carefully against your environment as the newer Backup Exec version does drop support for some older, obsolete technologies (32 bit operating systems on the Backup Exec Server itself for instance)  that you may still have in your environment.
