Decommisioning old BE server, bringing up new BE server

JM_DDS

We have BE 2010 currently installed on a workstation. We'd like to install BE 2010 on a brand new server and don't want to migrate the existing install to this new server.

How do we deal with the agents that are currently installed? Do we need to push out new agents or is there a way to configure the existing agents to communicate with the new server?

At what do we need to shut down the old server so that the license doesn't conflict? Can I start the install on the new server and leave the old server up until everything is configured and tested?

Thank you.

You can do that, else re-push out the agents from the new media server...this would ensure right version of RAWS is installed, publishing the right info & trust relationship is enabled...

Just change publishing information of remote server with new media server name

(same version of media server?)

You also need to enable trust with new media server if its BE 2010R3

You can install those licenses till everything is setup

The only change you need to make is update the new media server name in thepublishing tab of the remote agent utility . But even if its not changed the backup should run fine .

You can start the installation with both the server On because you can install the second server in evaluation mode and then remove the license key from the old one and install it in the new one . The evaluation period is for 60 days . So the backup would run without any conflict for 60 days.

If you would have not used you old media server in  evaluation , once you remove the license key the server would be in evaluation .
