Both Technotes above apply - please note that because we currently have a known issue with security handshaking between remote agents and servers some customers will find that publishing does not work, which therefore affects our ability to have different NDMP ports on different servers.

You can change the port on all servers to same thing (which does not need publishing to be working) or use one of the handshaking workarounds, or wait for us to provide a fix for the handshaking issue.

One thing from me: the Technote posted by samueljn says at the end:

NOTE: For Backup Exec 11 and higher, if Remote Agent publishing is enabled, it is only necessary to make the above change on the specific server(s) where port 10000 is in use.

For me, this is not true! I have problems to connecting to one server since a week or so, and i've tried everything what is written in these technotes (We are using SBE 2010 R3). Actually I have exactly the configuration as described (on the remote server service file entry, ndmp 9000, on the media server no entry, but dynamic ports for agents), and I still have no chance to connect to the remote server! If I make an entry on the media server with ndmp port 9000, too, then I can connect to this remote server - but no more to all the other server!

For me, this part of communication between Media Server and Remote Agent should be optimized ...

Please see my earlier reply about publishing failures disabling the ability to use different NDMP Ports on different servers  and the fact that this is a known issue with R3 that we are working on.

Without this known issue present, I have specifically seen different NDMP control ports on different servers work as described.

Thanks Colin, for your post.

Just one question to your posted workaround (disabling agent security by registry) - do I have to do this only on the media server and the affected remote server, or on all remote server in our company?
