Determine which updates have been installed

How do you determine which updates LiveUpdate has installed? We installed one update last week and since then all deduplication backups are completing but failing to verify or restore (nice one Symantec for a minor upgrade). I need to determine which update it was so I can raise a support call to Symantec.

Also, how do you remove updates? And I'm kinda guessing the answer is - you can't...

Thanks, Rob

You haven't mentioned BE version. For BE2010 you may try below steps.

In BE console, click on Help->Install updates, this gives you a list of updates which are installed.

Other option is open control panel->add remove programs-> click on install updates option for

Symantec Backup Exec. You can remove\uinstall updates through add\remove programs.

For BE2012, click on Backup Exec button located at the extreme top left corner -> Installation

and Licensing -> Installed updates.

Yes, it's BE2012. Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm just trying re-installing the agent to see if that helps although I'm pretty sure "Verify" is a media server only operation and doesn't need the agent.

Cheers. Rob.

Hi From your above comment , I'm pretty sure "Verify" is a media server only operation and doesn't need the agent.. Ans: Media server has whole backupexec software installed, remote agent is part of that install,so on media server you cannot uninstall the remote agent if you are looking for same. About uninstalling update for BE2012 there is spa and 2 updates released recently so if you are looking to remove those 2 update ,then you can uninstall them from add remove programs, but then you cannot uninstall service pack1a if you are looking to do that,as per link below. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH186717 Hope that helps. Thanks

Sorry, it's BE2010 not 2012 (won't be touching that for a while!). Cheers. Rob

My mistake in mentioning BE2012. We're on BE2010R3 and it has been working flawlessly for months. The last hotfix installed was 191248 which has introduced the problem:

Add/remove programs only gives you the option to remove the entire package, not indivudual hotfixes.

Hi Thanks for the update and Appreciated. :)

Yes - there were two hotfixes installed on 27th July: 191248 & 176937. I was able to un-install 191248 but it made no difference but I'm unable to uninstall 176937 - no option to uninstall.

So I'm re-installing 191248 before attempting to raise a support call. Not impressed with BE - again. Next time, I'm not going to bother with their hotfixes and leave it alone. I just don't learn...

Cheers, Rob.

Yeah, so I've found out which is a pain. Still struggling to raise support call with Symantec (either times out or Java error on create case) but I'm taking the opportunity to backup the dedupe database to tape - which will take several days. Least I've technically got a backup. We have six months of backups in there and don't want to loose it.

Cheers. Rob.
