Difference between Scan and Inventory

When I put tapes into my VXA-2 Desktop 1x7 Autoloader, I have gotten into the habit of running an inventory to get the current tape information. What is the scan function? How do the inventory and scan function differ in Backup Exec? Should I just run a scan instead? Also, is there a way that I can load up my tape library with tapes and have Veritas select tape1 for Monday, tape2 for Tuesday, tape3 for Wednesday, etc.?

Hello,

When Inventory is done, it will read the tape labels. When Scan is used, it will read the bar code lables.

If your tape drive has barcodes, then perform Initialize and Scan operation.

For tapes without barcodes, perform Inventory and Catalog operation.
