Disable "Test Unit Ready (TUR)"?

Is it necessary to disable TUR as described in MS KB:842411?

We are having intermitent errors w/ our Quantum SuperLoader 3 and this was suggested by their tech support.

Windows Server 2003 Standard SP1
Backup Exec 11d rev. 6235

Hi Adam -

I am assuming your Quantum Super Loader 3 is on a SAN and Fibre attached. Is this correct?

Nope, it's just attatched to the server via SCSI. It's on a Adaptec 29320a card.

I would suggest that you check Windows Device Manager. Be sure your tape drives are using the latest Tape Device Drivers and that your Medium Changer is showing as "Unknown Medium Changer."

Here is a link to the latest Driver for 11d. I have attached both x64 and x32, not sure what OS you have.

Tape Device Driver (x64) = http://support.veritas.com/docs/288039

Tape Device Driver (x32) = http://support.veritas.com/docs/288038

Here is a tech note that I thought would be helpful:

All drivers updated to the most current version, and it does show up as unknown medium changer. Removable storage service is also disabled. I wish the errors were caused by a driver prob, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm working w/ Quantum on the issue right now, but I can't seem to find any reference to the TUR functions of Server 2003 in the Symantec KB.

When you install Backup Exec 11d is TUR disabled?

Thanks,

Yes, Symantec tape class device drivers disable TUR requests upon installation.
