Hello All, I am fairly new to the Symantec World but i am in charge of all the backups for our clients. My boss has challanged me with a task to complete a disaster recovery for practice in case we need to do it in real time. We have a server for testing running SBS 2011 with Backup Exec 2012 Beta. I am going to pull backup data from a client who uses Server 2003 SP2, with BESR 8. I need to get the SBS box up and running using the backup data from out client (Server 03 + BESR 8). My questions are; Is it even possible? and what backup data do i need to transfer to our test machine to complete it? There is a lot of data in the backup file and ive noticed recovery points and such.. All help is appreciated! Like i said this is my first run at this. Thank you in advance.

BESR and BE are two completely different products
You would need a copy of BESR to run on your recovery machine, and this should probably be posted to the BESR forum at

For DR using Backup Exec, have a look at this KB - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH83015

You can use IDR. See the IDR chapter in the Admin Guide which can be found in the BE installation directory.

added info:
BE is for data backup such as DB, Exchange, Application
BESR is for image backup.
Full backup schedule would depend on your SLA so it is very important to take note on retention period as well
