Disaster recovery of the Symantec Backup Exec 2012 server

I'm looking for a solutions for disaster recovery of the Symantec Backup Exec 2012 server.

Now I found 2 solutions:

1. Integrated Bare Metal Recovery using the Backup Exec 2012  Disaster Recovery Disk

2. From Partners. If we have some LTO5 Media to restore Backup Exec in case of disaster, we must insert these tape media

into the our tape library and run first "Inventory", and when the command is executed we run "Catalog".

After these actions our backup server will fully restored.

For first solution can you provide more information (what needed, where can we find this Recovery Disk...)

For secondary solution... can I recover the backup server in this way?

Perhaps there are other solutions for disaster recovery? I am happy to listen to them...

Hi,

Unless you want to restore the server in its entirety, you can actually get away with backing up the Data and Catalogs folders. This would leave you with installing Windows on the server, patching it, and then installing BE.

then you'd stop the BE services, rename the newly created Data/Catalogs folders to something else and copy your backed up Data/Catalogs folders to the same location before starting up the services.

This does away with unnecessary licenses. The Data folder would contain the bedb.bak file which is created at 4AM every night by default by BE.
