Only software encryption is possible, as hardware encryption is implemented since LTO4.

Yes in the job properties in Network and Security it should show as a Option.  Check to make sure your tape device is listed in the Backup Exec 11d  HCL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH46703

Try to create a new job and see if the Encryption option is available.

Software encryption should be supported.

Hardware encryption is not supported as LTO3 didn't have that feature.  Hardware encryption was added in LTO4.

Before restoring the data do we have to perform a catalog and restore ?

If we can restore, i have another question .

When software/hardware encryption is used it would generate a file in the BE database, so how will the operation happen in the background, meaning how will detect that the tape is encrypted and how will it understand the key which we give.
