Duplicate data using a different media server

Follow-up to this post.

I would like to do B-2-D with Backup Exec on a virtual server, and then replicate/clone the backup job to a different physical server with a tape drive attached to it, in order to do tape out  from a different location within a building.

Specifically, the primary server (virtual) that's doing B-2-D has BE 2010 on it, and the secondary server (the physical one with the tape drive) has BE V12 on it.

Can this be done?

Thanks,
Eric

No.  This cannot be done, even if both the media servers are on physical machines and are on the same version of BE.

Why don't you just use the physical server with the attached tape drive to do everything.  Virtualising your media server is not recommended.

Other option is to backup the B2D folder (.bkf files) on the tapes but with this option restore will be

a lengthy process.

It has been cautioned many a times on this forum that you cannot backup B2D folders as if they are ordinary folders.  To "back them up", you need to duplicate them which is what the user is trying to do in the first place.
