Hi
I'm experiencing some problems with the configuration of a backup Job using Symantec Backup Exec in combination with Enterprise Vault.
I configured a backup jobs where I want to do a full backup of my Vault directories.
The backup runs without a problem (I don't get any messages stating the opposite) but when i try to do a restore using the restore wizard of Symantec Backup Exec and select the BackupJob that ran without a problem, the directories Enterprise Vault Indexing and Enterprise Vault Stores are empty.
On my VaultServer those directorys are full of subdirectories and files.
What did i wrong that my backupprocedure won't backup those directories? Can somebody please assist?

What version of BackupExec are you using and what version of EV are you using? Are you putting EV into backup mode before backing it up?
Have you check these?

Hi CTEV
Thanks for your answer. I'm using BackupExec Version 13.0 and the version of EV is 9.0.1.1073
As for putting EV in backup mode, i thought the Module in BackupExec for Enterprise Vault took care of this?
I did check the articles you send me but i can't find the reason for failing of the backups. Maybe i'm just too close to the puzzle to find the solution...
Do you have any idea what i could to to find the problem?
thanks in advance.
Kind regards

BackuExec 13 is that BackupExec 2010 OR, R2 or R3? Sorry I am not a BackupExec person so I don't know that side. Yes, there should be an EV agent that deals with EV backup mode, but only if you buy it with BackupExec and set it up correctly, possibly ask the BackupExec forums for clarifications. Might be worth applying Backup Exec updates etc. as I know there would hot fixes, again check with the backup exec guys.
As a test, when you run the backup job for EV, check and make sure that EV (Vault Stores and Index Locations) are in Backup mode or not. You can check by going on the EV Admin Console and expand to Vault Store Groups and then "Default Upgrade Group" or your Fingerprint Vault Store group and on the right hand pane you should see a Back Mode for your Vault stores. If there is a Yes the it is in Backup Mode. For the Index Locations, expand to your EV server and click on Services, then Index Service - Index Locations and check the Backup Mode column.

If I remember correctly even with the Backup Exec EV agent, you would still need to create the powershell scripts in order for the agent to pick them and execute them to put EV into and out of backup mode.

BE does put EV into BU mode and take out of Mode when using the EV agent.
Can you post the BE job log showing that the Index locations were successfully backed up?

Your restore locations do not look like you are using the agent.
Here is a view of the selections when using the agent.

Hi Lerxst
Thanks for your reaction.
As a matter of fact, I didn't configure the backup of the vaultserver myself, so i'm not sure how it has been configured.
Do you have a guide or anything else that can help me in configuring the backup using the agent as it should be?
thanks in advance
kind regards

Data needs to be selected from under a special Enterprise Vault Icon you would see under selections. Since, you have selected directly from under server, it is excluded by default and hence nothing seen under restore.
First, make sure you have pushed out remote agent to all the remote servers which belong to Enterprise vault topology. Once this is done, you should see EV selections under a special Enterprise Vault node under backup job selections. Please select the resources under that and perform the backup. This would automatically put EV resources under backup mode and clear backup mode once done with backup.

As a matter of fact, I Do have a node saying Enterprise Vault in my resource list...
Is it enough if i just select all of these resources?
