Error during catalog of tapes from old system

mc7
Level 3

I am in the process of cataloging quite a few tapes from old backup system.

I intially had some issue with the catalog but then one of the KB articles suggested to give the Backupexec service account the "Log on as batch job" rights. After that I was able to catalog 10-15 tapes. But now I have removed those tapes and added new ones to the library and get the error below.

Job Log has following:-

Drive and media mount requested: 17/04/2018 9:45:05 AM
V-79-57344-33029 - Error - Mount failed.
Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier.
Media GUID: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
V-79-57344-33029 - Unable to acquire device for the specified pool and media
Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier.

Job Completion Status:
Job ended: Thursday, 19 April 2018 at 9:45:05 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0008105 - Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier.
Final error category: Job Errors

The account still has "Logon as batch job" and I have tried to catalog 5 different tapes with the same error.

What coudl be the issue and what can I do to fix/troubleshoot this?

Try turning off the setting to follow all media in sequence for catalog operations and/or inventory all of your tapes before you run any catalog jobs

Hi Colin

I have turned that off the following 2 options:-

- Request all media in the sequence for catalog operations

- Use storage based catalog

Are these the ones you were reffering to?

This has not solved the problem.

Is there any verbose logging I need to turn on to troubleshoot this further?

Thanks

As tdisablign the follow al media only disables Backup Exec from looking for media that comes before the tape you have elected to catalog, but Backup Exec will still attempt to catalog media that follwos on from the tape it is likely you are missing (or have NOT inventoried) a later tape in the sequence.

You either need to locate and inventory this 'missing' tape - OR work out how long the catalog job takes to run before it fails and then run a catalog intending to cancel it 2-3 minutes before it will fail (which will leave you a partial catalog but at least something)
