Hi

we haven't had any issues with the backups so far even though we've been getting these errors since the rolled out Backup Exec 10.0 R5520 about a year ago. i was advised that this may be a driver issue and not considered critical since the operation of backups and the autoloader were not compromised. but now i want to know if a solution is available so the event log does not create such logs

our environment is Dell Power Edge 2850 running windows 2003 sp1 and Veritas backup Exec Ver.10.0 Rev 5520 attached to Dell Power-Vault 122T Autoloader LTO2 using its own dedicated SCSI card.

I have looked at the http://support.veritas.com/docs/264273 which is exactly what i see in the event logs but I'm not trying to eject any jobs and our built is higher than Backup Exec 10.0 v.5484 as described in the document.

any idea what can be done to resolve these event log warning and error messages??

thanks

Hi,

See the following technote for assistance troubleshooting hardware issues:

How to troubleshoot issues with a Robotic Library or Tape Drive in Backup Exec for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/255501

Also clean the drive and check for system event ids 7,9,11, or 15

Update us on the same and revert for any further Query

Thank you
Gauri

thanks for your respond,
i checked the documentation for backup exec 10 and list of supported hardware, our Tape unit is not on the list, I also checked the device manager and the driver being used is from the manufacture and not Veritas which makes sense if its not a supported device for ver 10. I do not see any of the event id's 7,9,11 or 15 that are related to backup procedure. The operation of the device works fine but it looks like every time the auto-loader changes the media these event id's are generated??

do you know if there are Veritas issued device drivers for the Dell Power-Vault 122T Autoloader LTO2 for Backup Exec Ver.10.0 Rev 5520??

The fix for me was to remove the quantum driver for medium changers and install an unknown medium changer. this resolved the issue, as veritas does not like quantum drivers.
