I've attached below the log FYI.

I wonder if symantec ever have solved the Invalid device problem? Anywayz, the backup exec always run into problem even if it do restore before. It's been 4-5 times I've failed to restore exchange individual email.

You did not indicate which SP of Exchange 2007 that you are using. BE 11d only support up till Exchange 2007 SP1

Backup Exec 11d Software (SCL)

Also, make sure that you have met the requirements of Note 1 on page 15 of the SCL.

Also, check the HCL below to ensure that your disk is supported.

Backup Exec 11d HCL

If it is not supported, test its functionalities with

B2Dtest.exe

You might want to disable NDMP on your disk.

Hi

Is the restore been done from tape ? If yes duplicate it to disk first & then do restore from disk

Ensure Backupexec is fully pathched up in this if it is BE 11d ensure it is on 7170 with sp5 & updates & ensure remote agent is upto date too

Ensue you have followed this technote to verify ,things are configured correctly

 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH51740

Thanks

1) Tape and disk both failed!

2) patched 7170 with sp5 already with Hotfix 70

3) Permission of the user account is unique and perfectly assigned.

Any ideas? Thanks

What SP are you using for your Exchange 2007?

failed in SP2, then I upgraded to SP3, both still no luck.

Hi

If exchange is sp3 then you should upgrade backupexec to 2010 r3 which support exchange 2007 sp3 as 11d doesn't support it

Please check the SCL below for BE 2010

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137682

Thanks

Thanks, but then I just found that's not working on SP2 also, any advise? I don't mind to downgrade my exchange for the time being as I need a restore urgently. Please help. Your help will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi

11d only support exchange 2007 sp1 so it is better  ,either you uninstall the sp3 update for exchange 2007 so to be supported with 11d or else upgrade to BE 2010 r3 sp2 with updates & then update remote agent.

Thanks

ic, I'll try, many thanks, will keep you update.

OK, I've setup another exchange server 2007 SP1, no update is applied!

So

Exchange 2007SP1 <-> BackupExec 11d

And exactly the same error was returned when trying to restore a mailbox from B2D device.

Error is:

e000848c - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33932

Debug Log is:

[3012] 05/09/12 14:03:50 PDIRestoreBSDProcessor::ProcessPDIDataTransfer: Starting data transfer between EXCHANGE1 and BACKUPEXECSERVER

[3012] 05/09/12 14:04:07 ERROR: 10 Error: Invalid device
[3012] 05/09/12 14:04:07 Enter RestoreMessageHandler::GetMachineName

Now what?

Is backup/restore are expected to be that painful? lol

Hi

You can test this see if this works , on exchange server open registry & access the hklm-softwares-symantec-backupexec for windows-backupexec-engine-ese in ESE make a dword value name e2k7_mbox and enter the value as 1

Once done please restart remtoe agent service on exchange server

Now on Media server please go to tools-option-microsoft exchange and check the legacy mailbox option & click on ok

Now click on backup tab & then expand exchange server & now you will see new component microsoft exchange mailboxes please see if you can expand them or gives log on to mapi error

Symantec doesn't recommend to backup individual mailboxes this we are only trying to isolate the issue so let me know the results.

Thanks

got the new component "Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" expanding into it got Logon error, "Access is denied" For both the BE service account and the domain administrator account, so what's next?

Many thanks and seem the "ERROR: 10 Error: Invalid device" is kidda generic

Oh, the remote debug log FYI, hope this help...

Hi

I have shared one document above please make the new account accordinly & ensure you follow it step by step & then make that new account as system log on account & also ensure you start the services with that account & then try expanding the mailboxes & see if you are able to expand

Thanks

L_

But the Account was created just few days ago by exactly the procedure required by the BackupExec and the account was checked by the BE support tools without any problems. Do you think I still need to create another one? I've created like 5-6 account for the BE already...

Hi

Have you tried uninstall mapi CDO client from exchange  & then restarting the  exchnage server & then instaling Mapi CDO client again & then try to expand from backup selection if you are sure that according to document above you have all right in place

Also you can use MFC mapi tool you can download it on exchange server & try to expand the mailbox database using the account which you are using with backupexec & see if that works, if that fails then it is mapi issue for which you need to contact Microsoft

I've newly created a exchange server which mailbox is expanded without erros and can see the mailbox inside successfully.

So:

1) The originally doesn't seem to have the MAPICDO connected successfully

2) The new exchange server expanded successfully BUT, the restore job FAILED with exactly the same error, "e000848c, V-79-57344-33932, ERROR: 10 Error: Invalid device" and now I was stucked!

Any suggestion? Seem I've to fix the MAPICDO in the old server, however, if the mail can be restored to the mailbox in the new exchange server, I'd be happy at this moment.

Thanks.

he 64 bit version of Outlook 2010 is not installed. The 64 bit version of MFCMAPI only works with the 64 bit version of Outlook 2010.

But then... The Outlook 2010 64-bit install pop up with this:

Outlook 2010 support ONLY the following x64 platform

Windows7, Windows Vista SP1, Windows Server 2008... Wut da... lol

Hi

You can also install 32 bit version of mfc mapi on that exchnage server & then check , that should be fine

So download the 32 bit executable

Thanks
