Exchange 2010 and Backup Exec

Just implemeted Exchange 2010 and just found out that BUEX 12.5 wont support it...joy.

I also have 12.5 on a Windows 2003 Server. So I have to upgrade to 2008 and then upgrade to BUEX2010. Two questions though.

1. Instead of upgrading from W2K3 to W2K8 I though of reinstalling 2008 from scratch, then re-install BUEX 12.5. Is there a config file that I can export from BUEX 12.5 that I can then import ont  BUEX 12.5 on the new 2008 server so all the previous settings will be saved? So this way I can just then I can just upgrade from BUEX 12.5 to BUEX 2010 without having to redo everything.

2. On VMware ESX I had a problem with it recognizing the tape library drivers, anyone have a similar experience like that?

Thanks!

You did not mention whether you are using Server 2008 R2 or not.  BE 12.5 cannot use Server 2008 R2 as a media server.  It can only back up Server 2008 R2.

It is better to upgrade BE on your existing server to BE 2010 R3 and then port it over to Server 2008.

Also note that to support Exchange 2010, your media server needs to be a 64-bit machine.

There are some very strict criteria when you virtualise your media server.  See the document quoted by me in the discussion

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-2010-r3-installed-vmware-vsphere-4-esxi-4...

and Colin Weaver's answer on it being an alternative configuration.

How is your tape library connected to the virtual backup exec server ?
With iSCSI/Fibre Channel/SAS/SCSI ?

Can you see your library in Windows device manager ?

1. Ok, so just to be clear, I should upgrade the curent version to 2010R3 and then port it over to a new 2008 R2 64bit server? How do you "port" over BUEX 2010 - is it just a DB transfer?

2. The tape drive is a Quantum PX502 connected to Backup exec with fibre channel. maybe the drivers arent compatible?

See here to migrate BE (same version) from server A to server B:
