Hi all and Symantec officials,

I need information regarding Exchange 2013 Support for Backup Exec 2010 R3.

We have Exchange 2013 running on a Windows Server 2012, and we have Backup Exec 2010 R3 (running on Windows Servr 2003).

How to create backup job to secure the mailboxes and users?

Thanks in advance,

Upgrading to BE 2012 SP2 or SP3 is the only solution at the moment to backup Exchange 2013.

BE 2010 R3 has not been updated to support Exchange 2013 (and there are no plans to do so) as such you cannot backup that version of Exchange with that version of Backup Exec

BE 2012 SP2 can do a NON-GRT backup which gives you ability to recovery an Information Store or Exchange server (which  means you can make use of an Exchange Recovery Database to get back the individual e-mails)

BE 20121 R2 (due for release next year) will support individual e-mail restore from Exchange 2013 using GRT

Can we perform a full backup of the Windows Server 2012 with Exchange 2013 installed (mailbox database) and then restore everything?

Not without stopping the Exchange services during every backup and amending the Backup Exec registry settings so that Active File Exclusion is disabled. EDIT: also doing a backup this way might need you to enable circular logging within Exchange as not running a proper backup will not trucate the logs.

Although if the Exchange server is virtualized you might be able to a do a GRT disabled backup of the whole VM just for DR purposes.

EDIT2: I hope it is Windows 2012 and not Windows 2012 R2 that your Exchange server is running on as Windows 2012 R2 is also not yet supported.

What do we need to do in order to get backup of the Exchange 2013?

Do we need to upgrade the Backup Exec 2010 to BE2012?

Some other solution?

Upgrading to BE 2012 SP2 or SP3 is the only solution at the moment to backup Exchange 2013.
