Exchange GRT Backup attached Disk

Hello everyone,

I've got the following situation:

4 Disks:

Disk 0 -> System (C:)

Disk 1 -> DB (D:)

Disk 2 -> Logs (E:)

Disk 3 -> DB2 D:_Second Storage

The Mountpoint from Disk 3 is D:\Second Storage so it's attached to Disk 1.

We are doing vmware backups, not agent backups what would take to much time.

The problem is its not possible to restore GRT Data from Disk 3.

The exeption is the following:

V-79-57344-38748

Do you think its a supportet to backup attached storage like this with grt data?

All other disks are restorable without problems.

The Backup Exec Administrator's guide doesn't tell me it's unsupported.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

This will be considered as unnamed mount point.

Just to clarify - Does the VM have a mount point or is the Disk Storage configured on a mount point ?

The disk storage is configured on a mount point.

V-79-57344-38748 error typically occurs during backups. Are you receiving the same error during a GRT restore ?

Yes, this occurs during the backup, the problem is that I can't even see grt data on this drive 3 so restoring single files isn't possible.

Does a GRT enabled backup of the same VM to a different storage complete successfully ?

And when this error occurs during backup, it is expected that GRT restores wouldn't be available.

Correct, it expects that GRT restores wouldn't be available - what is the case for this drive.

The other drives are backed up correctly with GRT data, so when I want to restore anything from drive 0 for example this is working without any issues.

I am a bit confused again when you say other drives are backed up correctly.

Pls clarify a few questions for me -

As you mentioned earlier, the Disk Storage is actually a mount point referenced to another drive.

1) Are all VMs with GRT being backed up to this Disk Storage ?

2) Is the Exchange VM the only one which is giving a GRT error during backup ?

3) Have you backed up the Exchange VM to another Disk Storage ? If yes, does it backup and restore successfully ?

I think you missunderstood something - for better explanation please find the sceenshot attached.

The exchange VM is the only one getting the GRT Error and it is the only VM with a Disk (without drive letter)  that is attached to another Disk - what is the problem here as I think.

All disks of this VM are in the same ESXi Datastore.

The question is whether this is supported?

Nopes, this isn't supported when using the virtual agent.

This KB article lists the unsupported configs - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO99373.html

Thank you! That means this configuration is seen as "utility partition"?

This will be considered as unnamed mount point.
