Hello,

I have a question about which backup method to select when backjing up exchange 2003 IS. using BE10.

We ultimatly want to resotre to the database files to data storage server and then rebuild a the server.

we are currently using copy database . and iof we need to resotre the database it seems that it will restore on the original Exchnage server.

I need to restore the database to an alternate location (Files) and I will rebuild the server while the exchnage server still operational.

any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

That's fine if I wantedto restoreto same server. I wanted to resotre the database files. I need those to build me a duplicate environmet. so my exchange server (2003) is operational.

how do I restore to an alternate server that exchange is not installed on it yet

Thanks

Any particular reason that you want to do a flat file restore of the Exchange files, rather than just keep the BKF files or tape handy?

If you really want a flat file backup of Exchange, shut down all Exchange Services and see http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/267722.htm to disable the default exclusions

I've done this before, but had to isolate my backup server and the exchange server. The restore had to occur on the same computername.

We have the backup exec agent for exchange and we are using a daily backup. when we first set it it we selected copy so we can get a snap shot daily,

We just want to set up a LAB with last sunday backup.

whatwe did we built a W2K3 Domain and an member serve in isolated environmet. We now want to get the database from tape to a location on the network where we can copy the files and build the exchnage server.

Hopefully It made some sense. that's all what i'm looking for.

thanks
