Hi,
Our corporate policy is to require users to place any personal files into a folder named DoNotBackup on server shares or desktops to exclude it from nightly backups. So the folders could be:
\\fileserver\shares\Users\someuser\DoNotBackup,
\\fileserver\shares\Users\someuser\Documents\DoNotBackup,
\\fileserver\shares\Users\someuser\some\random\folder\named\defined\by\user\DoNotBackup,
\\fileserver\shares\Shared\DoNotBackup,
\\emailserver\[ROOT]\home\someuser\DoNotBackup,
and so on
This has been fine with some of our in-house backup solutions, but I can't quite get the exclusion right for BE2012. Right now, I have this in my job selection, but it doesn't seem to work:
\\*\*\**\DoNotBackup\*.* /SUBDIR /EXCLUDE
Is this not the correct syntax for this type of exclusion?
Thanks!

Sorry, missed that
Looks to me like what you have should work Have no idea why it doesn't

See http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74388
Include/Exclude options
Specifically the "**" wild card in the path field

Thanks. As you can see, I have that in my exception. Are you saying I shouldn't?

Okay, possibly a change I made (was using a ? instead of ** and realized that was wrong) won't take effect until after the next full backup? We're on a full/diff/incr scheme.
