Extract files from an LTO written with BackupExec Symantec

Hi,

I have been given an LTO tape that was written with Backup Exec Symantec by a 3rd party and asked to restore the files to our server.  The tape says NT Backup on it and it was created 6/26/12.  (We have an LTO drive and have been backing up files with tar.)  I do not have the Backup Exec software.  I called Symantec technical support but could not get connected without a customer ID.

Is there any way to recover this data?  It is from an important TV program and I am under a short deadline.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sandra

You need a tape drive connected to a Windows based server running Backup Exec. Backup Exec uses a version of MTF instead of TAR, so you won't be able to read it with your current setup.

Backup Exec does have a trial mode for 60 days which might help you, however you should legally have a license if you are not testing but using the software for a required business process.

You should also confirm which version of Backup Exec was used to create the tape.
