Failed to format a volume from the virtual disks

Hello Group;

While attempting to convert a backup to a Hyper-V image  in BackupExec 2012 I receive the following error, however the link to the error leads to a page not found.

Final error: 0xe000a416 - Failed to format a volume from the virtual disks.
Final error category: Resource Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-42006

Does anyone know what this message indicates.

The machine is placed into the Hyper-V Manager and my disk image files show up in the storage folder although not the full dynamic size

Thanks for your responce

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

There seems to be nothing around your error...

Check the Known Issues section to see if this particular problem is listed. If it is, vote it up...

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/backup-and-recovery/issues

If you get no joy on the forums, it's also in your best interest to log a call with Symantec support over this and if they help you solve your issue, then report back here and close it off.

Thanks!

Hi

VM creation might be failing if you already have a folder by that name.  If a folder exists but no VM then it would not create the VM.

(Does it show any detail in the job log?)

Try cleaning the folder and rerun the job again please.

Two days

Still trying to open a tech support case...Customer services sends my an invaild Support ID.

It should not be this hard to get support on a product (end of rant)

I've given up on Symantec

I've given up on Symantec support for now, simply raising a case is impossible as it tells me my support ID is invalid, even though's printed on our sales order and everything.

Then you call the support and get some guy on the line who can read the KB articles out loud for you. Great.

How on earth do you get to a proper technician in this company?

Hi Andrew,   This is a fully

Hi Andrew,

This is a fully provisioned VM right?

Also, you can try increasing the severity of the case you have opened...I will hit the support flaf here too.

@RpR: I don't think that tagging your rant onto the OP's justified rant (in that it relates directly to his issue not being solved) adds much to solving his issue wink

Thanks!

Quite right Craig, had to

Quite right Craig, had to vent my frustration somewhere and these forums appear to be the only place where Symantec pays attention, and have competent staff :)

I give up

let others find and solve this issue.

Thanlks all for the online suppot

I have been able to get this

I have been able to get this to work on some of our servers.  But on one server, I am getting the same error.  That particular server is a Hyper-V guest with two drives (C: and E:), but it is backed up directly using the Windows Agent instead of the Hyper-V agent.  Here is a section of the SGMON log during the convert to virtual job where it appears it is unable to format the C: drive VHD, but is successful on the E: drive VHD:
