Faulting application bengine.exe

Over the past 2 days, some of our backup jobs have been failing. This has been due to the Backup Exec job engine service not responding. Further investigation has found that at approximately 9pm, the following error is logged in the Event logs:

Faulting application bengine.exe, version 14.0.1798.105, time stamp 0x4fa3de72, faulting module bengine.exe, version 14.0.1798.105, time stamp 0x4fa3de72, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00000000003f1c8b, process id 0x1200, application start time 0x01cd97aa031f9564.

After which all jobs scheduled after this time fail and are put on hold.

In the mornings, I start the job engine again, remove the hold on the jobs, and they go through to succeed. I need some direction to identify the cause of this issue.

Regards,

Tihaem

Would you please attach job log for the job which was running at the time of this failure? That may give some clue.

Hello Tihaem,

Also are there any other errors generated in the Event viewer just before the service terminated ?

That will give the idea about why the service terminated.

Do check for Active Alerts too when the service got crashed.

Thanks,

Have all your live updates been installed? Make sure the remote agents have been pushed out to your servers.  The remote servers have to be up dated to the same level as the Media server.

I have something similar here, but not exactly the same error :

Faulting application name: bengine.exe, version: 14.0.1798.109, time stamp: 0x504654f4
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17932, time stamp: 0x503285c2
Exception code: 0xe06d7363
Fault offset: 0x000000000000caed
Faulting process id: 0x2460
Faulting application start time: 0x01cdb5e7c4b013b0
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\bengine.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll

It happens during duplication from disk to tape, and I have to test it, but I think it is only happening when our Exchange GRT job is duplicated, and spans more than one tape.

LiveUpdate does not report any new patches, and the agents are pushed to the servers.  (and in my case, this is a duplicate job, so no connection to the agent is needed).

The original backup job ran fine, no errors or exceptions.
