version in use is Backup Exec 16. i am attempting to add several Microsoft 2012R2 VMs to the Backup and Restore tab. Random agents will not install and the “job” continues to fail regardless of troubleshooting. The VMs that currently succeed are no different, settings wise, than the ones that are constantly failing. Please Help!!

Error 0xe00086cc often relates to Access Denied errors.
If some VM works and others not, verify the account which is being used to run the backup and ensure that account has all the required rights for that VM or use a different account to backup that VM.
