Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied backing up remote server

Albert_Chaffman

Backup Exec 11d
Windows server 2003 on both Backup server and remote server

backup service account is used for all authenication on all servers - the other 3 remote servers backup fine without any issues.

I have uninstall and reinstalled the remote agent and open file option twice with no change.

This remote server in question is also an Exchange server. The exchange agent is installed/licensed on the Backup Server. So a typical log looks like this

Are the first 5 characters of the service account unique in the domain?

Does the service account have a mailbox that has been used at least once to send or receive an email?

Is the service account a mail administrator with full access to each mailbox, you can check by logging onto a desktop as the BE account and open a few mailboxes as a test.

the service account in question was always the service account, even when this server was running BE9.1. I never had a problem like this before upgrading to BE11d. I am not doing brick level backups.

This error message is affecting both Exchange and C: & D: backups - The only things that are sucessful are the Dell utility partition, and System state and Shadow Copy Components. So forgetting Exchange, not being able to backup C: & D: is enough concern for me. See my reply in my other question though - Maybe this will be corrected with a fresh install of BE on a different server when I make the move.

But one thing to point out is when editing the Backup Selection, the server BGMAIL has a small exclamation point in a yellow triangle next to it. If I test service account access, it passes fine.

Have a look at the alerts tab, the yellow triangle means there are alerts regarding that server. Maybe there is more information there.

I've had this problem before too, if I remember right I changed the default network card option to use a specific network card which seemed to fix the problem. Its under Tools, Options in Backup Exec. It might be worth a try for you too.
