There in option you have to select if you want the GRT for the VM machine though your question is not clear what you want. If you want to know if GRT backup of vmware can be taken on the tape then yes it can be done.

Bear in mind that if you do GRT to tape, the restore process needs space on disk to stage the complete virtual machine back to before it can recover an individual file and this process takes time.

As such you need disk space anyway and if you want efficient single file restores then it is recommended that you do you backups to disk in the first place and then duplicate to tape if you need off-site storage.

Yes. By default the GRT option is enabled in BE 2012 for Vmware backups. If you want to make any changes then edit the backup job and then go to Vmware tab and there you will see the options to Disable/enable as per your settings.

what happens is you make full and incremental backups of virtual machine direct to tape, but it displays the following message

VMVCB :: Backup-\ \ 192.168.200.32 \ VCGuestVm \ (DC) VMWARE MINAGRI (DC) \ vm \ Discovered virtual machine \ Reloj_ControlV-79-57344-38732 - Virtual machine '\ (DC) VMWARE MINAGRI (DC) \ vm \ Discovered virtual machine \ Reloj_Control 'does not meet the Requirements for Backup Exec necesario single application to restore items. You can not Perform restores of GRT-enabled application data From this backup.

Do I need to backup to disk first and then perform stage to tape?

GRT is selected in the jobs

Have you done any testing to a disk location as I suspect that error is nothing to do with tape and is more likely to be something to do with the virtual machine being backed up. Some test backups to disk would confirm this.

Are you just taking the GRT of a VM or you are using any database option like exchange etc?

YOu said that full and incremental going directly to tape. Please make sure that FUll and Incremental are in the same policy.

Have it ever worked or it is new configuration?

Is the remote agent installed in the VMs and is this a windows VM or a unix-based ?
